Donny Bailey Seagraves is a native of Athens, Georgia and for many years lived in the nearby small town of Winterville, Georgia. The Seagraves are parents to grown twins, Jenny and Greg, and grandparents to George and Patrick.
After studying journalism at the University of Georgia, Donny became a freelance writer. Her writing, including fiction and nonfiction, has appeared in many regional and national publications including Athens Magazine, where she was a frequent contributor and bookshelf columnist and reviewer for 20 years, and the Chicago Tribune. In 2009, Delacorte Press, an imprint of Penguin-Random House, published Donny’s first novel, Gone From These Woods, a children’s middle grade novel for ages 9 – 12. In 2011, Penguin-Random House Children’s Books published the Yearling paperback edition of Gone From These Woods.
Donny has presented at writers’ conferences, including the Harriette Austin Writers Conference, the Northwest Georgia Valley Writers Conference, and at book festivals and trade shows, including The Southern Festival of Books, The AJC Decatur Book Festival, the Georgia Reading Association and SIBA, plus schools including Barrow Elementary, Oconee County Middle School, and West Jackson Middle School. She enjoys speaking to children and adults.
A member of the Georgia Writers Registry, Donny also has served on the Athens-Clarke County Library Boomer Advisory Board and the Friends of the Winterville Library Board. She is a former member of the Winterville City Council where she served as Mayor Pro Tem and Interim Mayor.
