Author's First Published Novel Has Athens Ties

by Chris Starrs

Although Gone From These Woods is Winterville resident Donny Bailey Seagraves’ first published novel, she’s quick to point out it’s not the first book she’s written.

“Actually, this is my 10th novel,” says Seagraves, an Athens native, of Gone From These Woods, which will be released in August. “This is just the first one to be published. Finally getting published seems to be a good lesson in not giving up. I guess some of those early novels were practice and they’ll never see the light of day.”

Seagraves Works on Novels and Winterville History

Getting a book published by a major publishing company is an accomplishment that most authors dream of their entire lives. Many never are able to see that dream become a reality, however.

Donny Bailey Seagraves is a local resident who is one of the lucky few to achieve such a goal. She lives in Winterville, and Random House published her children’s middle grade novel, Gone From These Woods, in 2009 (and in 2011 as a Yearling paperback edition).
