Spelling, Spiders and the Secrets of Like

Coming soon: Spelling, Spiders and the Secrets of Like by Donny Bailey Seagraves

Who will win the Hartfield Elementary School's spelling bee? Emily Ash, a new fifth grade student who made it all the way to the national bee last year? Or Josh Meyers, who came in second in last year's bee? Both kids are good spellers and both wan to win, big time. But there can only be one winner.

Josh Meyers, a 10-year-old fifth-grade student at Hopefield, Georgia's elementary school, has dedicated his life to sports. But a sudden injury on the soccer field knocks him out of his favorite activity for many weeks. Emily Ash, who made it all the way to the National Spelling Bee last year and placed fourth, finds herself left behind when her parents and younger brother fly to Egypt, paid for by a special grant given to her archaeologist dad for research. Emily moves in with Uncle Max and prepares to win the Hopefield Elementary Spelling Bee so she can return to the national bee again and hopefully win the crown. Without sports to occupy his time, Josh soon becomes Emily's top opponent in the school bee. Emily devises a series of plans to make Josh lose, while Josh works on plans of his own. Who will win the bee? Find in Donny Bailey Seagraves' new children's middle-grade novel, Spelling, Spiders and the Secrets of Like, available soon.
