Information for Writers

I'm often asked for tips on writing and how to get published. Below are a few things I've learned as a writer for over 40 years and as a published author for more than 15 years.

My Writing Advice

  1. Read, read, read, and then read some more, especially the types of books you plan to write or are writing and other excellent books on the writing craft. (Go here for my book recommendations.)

  2. Write, write, write, and then write a lot more. You have to write many words before you write anything worthy of publication.

  3. Join a writer' group. If there isn't one near you, form one! Another idea: join an online critique group.

  4. Go to writers' conferences and other literary events where you can meet editors, agents, and published authors. Get your work critiqued there and listen to the comments an suggestions from professionals in the publishing industry. Sometimes, they're right.

  5. If you really want to get published, never give up!
